10-digit dialing Reminder!
Hello & Happy New Year!
We wanted to send out a reminder that 10-digit dialing will be necessary effective Sunday, January 10th, 2010.
**To complete a Local Call:
If you want to call your neighbor, Hazel, next door.
You would dial... 541-932-XXXX
**To complete a Long Distance Call:
When you call your Aunt Hazel who lives in Pendleton, Oregon.
You would then need to dial 1 and the area code
1-541-276-XXXX (No Change)
*If you do attempt a call, and hear an error recording, listen carefully to the recording, as it will instruct you on what needs to be done to successfully complete your call!
Go ahead and start using the 10-digits now!
We have had many customers ask how the new area code comes in to play, and how it will affect us here in our area. Oregon Telephone has reserved banks of telephone numbers, it is not likely that in our exchanges that you will ever use anything besides 541.
Let’s say a cell phone provider opens up a new prefix in John Day, it is then a possibility that they may use the 458 area code.
Quick Summary of what you may need to change:
1) You may need to reprogram your fax machine, your speed dial settings, *Internet Dial-up number, alarm and security settings, call forwarding, voicemail services and similar functions.
2) Check your websites, business stationary, advertising materials, personal checks, contact information and your ID tags to ensure the area code is included.
